EU country to reduce payments for refugees from Ukraine — who will be affected.

In 2025, one European country will increase the housing allowance for Ukrainian refugees living in shelters and employed. This was reported by NOS.

The Dutch Minister for Refugees and Migration, Mona Keizer, announced the government's intention to reduce the inequality between Ukrainian refugees and other asylum seekers. The increase in the personal contribution is aimed at covering the operational costs of shelters, such as gas, water, and electricity.

The changes foresee that employed refugees will have more money than those who receive only housing assistance. An individual approach will be applied to refugees if they encounter financial difficulties.

Cost of living — how amounts will change

The monthly payment for living in state shelters in the Netherlands will be 244.2 euros (12,005 hryvnias) instead of the previous 105 euros (5,145 hryvnias) from October 1. Also, adult Ukrainians receiving food in shelters will pay an additional 252.2 euros per month (12,397 hryvnias). The maximum contribution for a family of two adults will be 992.8 euros per month (48,657 hryvnias).

It is also worth noting that the European Union has extended temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees, which has provided shelter for over 4 million Ukrainians. At the same Time, Switzerland may change the rules for obtaining S protection status for Ukrainian citizens.

Ukrainian refugees in the Netherlands will receive more money for housing if they are employed.
