North Korean soldier escapes to South Korea - media.

On the morning of August 20, a soldier from North Korea crossed the border into South Korea, Yonhap News reported. South Korean military personnel spotted him north of the military demarcation line and helped him reach South Korea. The Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea confirmed the arrival of the soldier and noted that he was a staff sergeant. The circumstances of the escape are currently under investigation.
Experts believe that this may be a result of Seoul's 'propaganda' in response to the launches of trash-laden balloons carried out by the North Korean regime. Just two weeks ago, a North Korean civilian escaped to South Korea, crossing the western path. Some people are leaving North Korea due to food shortages and political repression. Since the beginning of the year, the number of defectors has reached 105 individuals.
Supply of trash-laden balloons from North Korea to South Korea occurred at the end of May. A few days later, harmful creatures were found in the balloons. Meanwhile, South Korean President Moon Jae-in aims to establish a consultative body with North Korea to discuss easing tensions and economic cooperation.
