In Turkey, a developer received a record life sentence: details.


In Turkey, developer Hasan Alpargün was sentenced to 62 life terms, totaling 865 years of imprisonment. His building collapsed during an earthquake at the beginning of 2023, killing 96 people. This was reported by Haberler.
Alpargün received the harshest sentence among all Turkish developers and contractors who were punished after the February 2023 earthquake. He was accused of "deliberate causing of death and injury to people".
According to the publication, in the Alpargün Apartment residential complex, built under his leadership, 96 people died. Alpargün was in Cyprus during the earthquake and tried to take about $2 million out of Turkey.
According to the developer, he conducted soil studies before construction and used quality materials.
In February 2023, Turkey and Syria were shaken by a series of powerful earthquakes, which became some of the strongest in the last hundred years. As a result of these events, more than 44,000 people died, and at least 13.5 million were affected.
