Pager explosions amid escalating Israel-Hezbollah conflict
The explosions occurred amid escalating violence between Israel and Hezbollah, which have been engaged in cross-border fighting since the beginning of the Gaza war last October.
Reuters journalist reported on ambulances rushing through the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut amid widespread panic. According to local residents, explosions continued even 30 minutes after the initial blasts. A security source added that devices were also exploding in southern Lebanon.
Regional television channels broadcast surveillance camera footage showing a small portable device placed next to a cashier in a grocery store, where a shopper was paying, spontaneously exploding. In other footage, the explosion appeared to knock down a person standing near a fruit stand at a market.
