Supply of Poor-Quality Clothing for the Armed Forces of Ukraine - New Details in the Case.

In the case regarding the supply of poor-quality clothing for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, materials concerning another suspect have been submitted. In total, the fraud caused losses amounting to 1.16 billion hryvnias.
The Office of the Prosecutor General has submitted an indictment to the court regarding an accomplice of a businessman from Lviv who organized the supply of poor-quality military equipment for the Ministry of Defense, resulting in losses of over 1.16 billion hryvnias. This suspect is currently hiding in the capital of Austria, Vienna.
Law enforcement officials reported that this person was a close childhood friend and godfather of the Lviv businessman. They led a charity fund that was used for laundering illegally obtained funds.
How Money Laundering Occurred
At the end of 2023, the Office of the Prosecutor General began an investigation into the embezzlement of state funds during the procurement of clothing and linen for the Armed Forces. The Lviv businessman’s companies won 23 tenders for supplying poor-quality goods. The criminal scheme was organized by the businessman, his son, and other accomplices who managed the procurement process. Contracts with the Ministry of Defense were signed with companies controlled by them.
In January 2024, the businessman and other suspects were charged with fraud under martial law, and already a year later, prosecutors submitted the indictment to the court. The suspects included Ihor Hrynkevych and his son Roman.
As a result, it was found that the businessmen from Lviv, through their criminal activities, inflicted significant losses on the Ukrainian army, as well as used the charity fund for money laundering. This case highlights the seriousness of the corruption and bribery issue in Ukrainian society and demonstrates the importance of effective oversight and investigation of violations in the country’s defense sector.
