Chinese company Xiaomi plans to release its own mobile processors for flagship devices

Founder of the Chinese company Xiaomi, billionaire Lei Jun, announced plans to use its own mobile processors for the company's flagship devices. He wishes to compete with American technology giants.

During an online presentation from Beijing, Lei Jun introduced the new Xring O1 chip, which will be used in three devices, including the Xiaomi Tablet 7 Ultra. This processor is manufactured using 3nm technology and is intended to compete with chips from Apple and Qualcomm, according to Bloomberg.

'We also want to become one of the leading chip manufacturers. If our phones compete with the iPhone, can our chips also measure up to Apple's processors?'

Lei Jun acknowledged that currently, the Xring lags behind Apple's chipsets in some metrics, such as processor speed, but he emphasized that it is a significant achievement for their young development team.

Investments in research and development and electric vehicle launch

The event announced plans to invest 200 billion yuan (27.8 billion dollars) in research and development over the next five years. The company also plans to spend 7 billion dollars on developing its own mobile processors over the next decade.

The first electric crossover of the company YU7 was also unveiled. This project is one of many in the electric vehicle sector and aims to compete with Tesla and BYD. Founder Lei Jun called YU7 his latest entrepreneurial effort.

The company plans to launch 350,000 electric vehicles by 2025, despite the difficulties caused by a fatal accident involving the SU7 model in March, which led to a decrease in orders. The YU7 is expected to be released no earlier than July, but the price is currently unknown, and pre-orders are not yet available.

Xiaomi's initiatives resemble Huawei's similar breakthrough a few years ago, which raised concerns in Washington regarding Chinese achievements in strategic technologies, including AI and chips.

In addition to developing processors, Xiaomi is actively advancing in the electric vehicle and artificial intelligence sectors. The company introduced its own language model MiMo as its first product in the field of artificial intelligence, previously mostly known for smartphones and household appliances.
