Ursula von der Leyen: Europe has cut Russian oil imports to a historical minimum.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that Europe has significantly reduced its dependence on Russian fossil fuels in a very short period.

She made this announcement during the World Economic Forum held in Davos.

'Before the conflict in Ukraine, Europe received 45% of its gas and 50% of its coal from Russia. Russia was also one of our main suppliers of oil. Although these prices were low, Russia used them to blackmail us. When Putin's tanks entered Ukraine, Russia stopped supplying gas to Europe. Since then, we have significantly reduced our dependence on Russian fuels,' she noted.

Von der Leyen also explained that 'gas imports from Russia have decreased by nearly 75%, and we now import only 3% of our oil from Russia, while we do not import any coal at all.'

'But freedom has cost us dearly: households and businesses have already felt a sharp increase in energy prices, and for many, this is just the beginning,' the president stated.
